Japanese Beauty Tips

Let’s face it, we can all afford to take a few notes from the Japanese beauty play book. Mindful beauty practice is deeply embedded in Japanese culture, after all, and with skincare routines that verge on double digits, it’s clear that Japanese women put in work to attain smooth, glowing, and borderline poreless skin. Here are five of our favorite tips that help them do it.

  1. It’s all about the Green Tea

We all know good green tea is for your overall health and well being. Packed full of antioxidants and just the right amount of caffeine to help you feel alive, green tea is essentially like a multivitamin for your face. Japanese women have been sipping the skincare benefits of the classic tea throughout history, boasting brighter, more plump skin that is resilient against environmental damage as a result.

  1. Stay Out of the Sun

Rarely seen on a sunshine stroll without a parasol in hand, Japanese women have long been aware of the dangers posed by overexposure to the sun. Arguably their most effective anti-aging secret, staying out of the sun will save you the stress of fine lines, wrinkles, and sun spots in the future, taking years off of your complexion.

  1. Rice to Brighten Skin

Japanese rice wine, or sake is already known for its skin brightening benefits thank to its natural enzymes (there’s a reason why we created an entire collection infused with the stuff). The lesson here is that you can’t go wrong with rice (water, sake, bran – basically anything) when it comes to your skin. We personally love rice bran as a gentle exfoliating treatment to soften skin and promote an even tone.

  1. Eat Your Vitamin C

As much as we love a good vitamin C serum, Japanese beauty trends tell us that eating your vitamin C is just as effective, and more delicious. Given that vitamin C rich fruits like Oranges, Tangerines, Yuzu, and Grapefruit are staples in Japanese cuisine, it’s practically easier, in this case, to brighten skin and boost radiance from the inside out.

  1. Get to Know Azuki Beans

Azuki Beans are a tried, tested and true ingredient in Japanese skincare. High in antioxidants, Azuki Beans contain a cleansing agent called Saponin, which is known to help tighten pores and deeply cleanse skin. Between its antioxidant content and purifying powers, Azuki beans are a key ingredient when it comes to graceful aging – Japanese style.
