Ways to Upcycle Your Beauty Products

Making a candle from home using old beauty product containers.

The beauty industry has been making incredible efforts to become more sustainable and eco-friendlier. Even so, there are still products in most beauty collections that can’t be properly recycled. A solution to this problem is learning unique, fun ways to upcycle your favorite beauty products. Before you throw away that old jar, remember these ideas to create an Insta-worthy upcycle.

Vases or Pots

If you love plants and flowers, then skip the pot! Use empty beauty containers to hold all or your flowers, succulents, herbs, and more. For a chic vase, use old spray bottles or oil bottles. You can simply peel off a label, paint the container, or decorate it however you want. These bottles also work especially well when attempting to propagate a plant. If you’re wanting to pot your new succulent or other plant, punch a small hole, if possible, at the bottom to allow drainage. Otherwise, simply pot your plant as normal, but with your favorite beauty product acting as its home!

Home Fragrance

If you’ve been looking for an excuse to make your own candle, now is the time. Once you finish your next beauty product, consider using it for any and all home fragrance. If you have a jar or large bottle, consider making your own candle from ingredients such as soy wax, a wick, and scented oils of choice. If candles aren’t your thing, you can use old beauty containers for incense, potpourri, and more. This is a process that can easily be repeated over and over, so enjoy all of your favorite scents from your favorite beauty products, too.

Snacks and Drinks

We get it, dishes are expensive. What’s even more expensive, though, is hosting. For your next party, consider using old beauty products to fulfill all your hosting needs. If you have miniature bottles, use these for mixing cocktails, shots, syrups, dressings, and more. For larger snacks, use old mask or scrub containers to fill with dips, nuts, toppings, and whatever else will be the perfect touch to your treats.

TSA-Friendly Containers

Is your favorite product that you just can’t live without over three ounces? If you aren’t checking a bag, then use your old, smaller beauty containers to pack all your beauty favorites. This especially comes in handy for your favorite body washes, shampoos, oils, serums, and more. Many brands now offer refill services, too, so check to see if your favorite product can be replenished before you travel, too.

Vanity Accessory

That packaging is far too cute to not show off! One of the easiest ways to upcycle your old beauty containers is using it for vanity storage. If you have a larger container, use it for your toothbrushes, toothpaste, makeup brushes, and other beauty tools or essentials.

Upcycling is currently one of the biggest beauty trends, but actively following these efforts will turn this trend into a lifestyle.
